In the Carneros region of Napa Valley, a landmark property has quietly changed hands. The Peju family, longtime Napa vintners known for their Cabernet Sauvignon and hospitality-driven brand, has sold Calmére Estate Winery for $16.8 million in cash.
A new winery launched by Greg and Kristen Koenig in Sunnyslope, Idaho, draws on decades of heritage and two vineyard sites—one planted in 1996, the other acquired in 2014—to produce wines steeped in place and care.
According to lore, Archbishop Boemond II was cured of illness in the 14th century after drinking wine from this vineyard. Impressed, he dubbed it “the true doctor,” a title that’s stayed ever since. Over time, its prestige only grew—even royalty, like King Edward VII, is said to have taken the Doctor’s wine as a form of “medicine.”
Bluestone Vineyard is making waves once again, securing a string of major awards at the recent East vs. West International Wine Competition. The Bridgewater, Virginia–based winery earned two Double Golds, five Gold medals, and multiple Best of Class honors—solidifying its place among the most celebrated producers on the East Coast.
